Are all batteries subject to the take-back obligation?

All batteries are subject to the take-back obligation. There are two exceptions, i.e.

  • batteries for devices used in the space industry,
  • batteries intended for specific military purposes.

Belgian legislation identifies 3 categories of batteries:

  • portable batteries
  • industrial batteries
  • automotive batteries.

Bebat fulfils the take-back obligation for portable, industrial and automotive batteries. Bebat has elaborated a practical decision tree to help determine which category a battery belongs to.
