But how can you ensure that the battery of your electric bicycle lasts longer? And what should you do with a discarded bike battery? These practical tips will show you the way.
How long does the battery of your e-bike last?
No matter how well you take care of the battery - with the help of our tips, for example - the battery of your electric bike inevitably loses its capacity over the years. Depending on the type of battery, it lasts from 3 to 5 years, although many batteries last much longer. Do you notice that your battery really isn't working anymore? Then you have it repaired or replace it with a new one.
The battery of your electric bike is broken. What can you do?
Battery refurbishment
Often, the capacity of your battery diminishes over time, regardless of how often you've used your e-bike. This is due to the chemical crystallization inside the battery, which gradually impairs its ability to charge and eventually causes it to malfunction.
Professional repairers remove damaged components from the casing and replace them with a new battery pack. Having your battery refurbished can sometimes be more cost-effective than purchasing a new battery, but we strongly advise against trying to do this yourself. Leave this task to the specialists.

A new battery
You can also opt for a new battery. In that case, it is best to ask the bike dealer to order a new one from the manufacturer of your bike. This ensures that you get the right battery for your e-bike.
Caring for your e-bike's battery: our tips!
Even though the capacity of a bike battery automatically decreases, you can still easily ensure that the battery of your beloved electric bike remains in good condition for longer.
- It is not good for your electric bike’s battery to be completely depleted. Therefore, try not to run it completely empty and charge it before the motor assistance stops working. If your bike has a BMS (Battery Management System), the battery is protected against complete discharge.
- Is your bike’s battery empty? Do not store the bike without charging the battery briefly first. Otherwise, the battery could get damaged. Also, use your electric bike regularly.
- Your bike’s battery prefers to be charged at room temperature. Avoid charging in freezing cold, as the battery really does not like that.
- If your bike is going to be idle for a while? Then store the battery at room temperature.
- Has your bike had a heavy fall? Then be sure to have the battery checked by the bike dealer.
What if your e-bike battery finally gives out?
Even if the battery of an e-bike no longer works, it still requires some attention.
- Remove the battery from your bike and bring it indoors to the bicycle dealer or to the recycling centre.
- If it is not possible to safely detach the battery from your bike, then you must bring the bike with the battery to the recycling centre as electronic waste and deposit it at the Recupel sectop,, and definitely not with the scrap or old iron.
- If the battery is swollen or damaged - for example, by a heavy fall - tape off the contacts, then put it in a clear plastic bag and seal it.
Crucial tip: never open a battery yourself
